About Tianjin

Tianjin, 137 kilometers southeast of Beijing, is located at 39º8' North and 117º2' East, covering area of 11,917 square kilometers, the city is bordering on the Bohai Sea in the east. It is one of three municipalities of China directly under the Central Government. The five main tributaries of the Haihe River, namely, the Yongding, Daqing, Ziya, Nanyunhe and Chaobai, coverage here to from the Haihe River, which flows through the city and empties into Bohai Sea at Dagukou. The terrain in Tianjin is low and flat, with an altitude of only two to five metres above sea level. Most part of the city is on the Haihe Plain.

The climate of Tianjin is temperate, continental-type monsoon climate with four seasons distinct from one another. The mean temperature of the year is 12.2ºC ( 53.96ºF) with that of January being -4ºC (24.8 ºF) and that of July 26.8ºC ( 80.24ºF) . The average annual rainfall is 559.1mm, most of which is concentrated in summer. The freezing period of ports lasts 80 days.


The education system in Tianjin, as elsewhere in China, can be simply summarized as "four educations" and "7 levels". The "four educations" refers to pre-school education, primary education, secondary education and higher education. The "7 levels" refers to kindergarten, primary school, junior high school, senior high school, higher college education, undergraduate education and postgraduate education.

Nankai University has broadened international communications by establishing exchanges and collaborative relationships with more than 200 universities and academic institutions. Nobel Laureates Chen Ning Yang, Tsung-Dao Lee, Samuel Chao Chung Ting, Robert A. Mundell, and Reinhard Selten as well as former President of Korea Kim Dae Jung and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger were all conferred Honorary Professorships by Nankai University. Many other world-known scholars and entrepreneurs have been invited as Visiting Professors at Nankai University. Nankai University attracting a large number of talented mathematicians known at home and abroad, has thus become one of the most famous centers for mathematics worldwide. Also, Nankai established dozens of Confucius Institutes all around the world.

About Hebei University of Technology

Hebei University of Technology (HEBUT) is a key provincial university as well as one of the national universities under "Project 211". It is also an important university under the authority of Hebei province which specializes in engineering studies and combines multiple academic areas including technology, science, economics, management and arts . It was founded in 1903, and was originally known as Beiyang Technical School. How about the cuisine of Tianjin?

Tianjin cuisine places a heavy focus on seafood, due to Tianjin's proximity to the sea. Prominent menus include the Eight Great Bowls , a combination of eight mainly meat dishes. It can be further classified into several varieties, including the rough , smooth , and high . The Four Great Stews actually refers to a very large number of stews, including chicken, duck, seafood, beef, and mutton.

The four delicacies of Tianjin include Goubuli baozi, Guifaxiang Shibajie Mahua , Erduoyan Zhagao and Maobuwen Jiaozi . Well-known foods include Caoji donkey meat, Bazhen sheep-leg mutton of Guanshengyuan, Luji Tangmian Zhagao, Baiji Shuijiao, Gaogan of Zhilanzhai, Guobacai of Dafulai, Kansubao of Shitoumen and Xiaobao chestnut. These famous snacks are available in Nanshi Food Street, which was a famous calling-card of Tianjin in the aspect of cuisine.

How about Tianjin’s climate?

Tianjin features a four season, monsoon-influenced climate, typical of East Asia, with cold, windy, very dry winters reflecting the influence of the vast Siberian anticyclone, and hot, humid summers, due to the monsoon. Spring in the city is dry and windy, occasionally seeing sandstorms blowing in from the Gobi Desert, capable of lasting for several days. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from −3.5 °C (25.7 °F) in January to 26.6 °C (79.9 °F) in July, with an annual mean of 12.66 °C (54.8 °F). With monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 48% in July to 61% in October, the city receives 2,522 hours of bright sunshine annually. Having a low annual total precipitation of 540 millimetres (21.3 in), and nearly three-fifths of it occurring in July and August alone, the city lies within the humid continental zone, with parts of the municipality being semi-arid Extreme temperatures have ranged from −22.9 °C (−9 °F) to 40.5 °C (105 °F).
